The Return of Jon Lester

Jon Lester will make his return to the Major Leagues on Monday night at Jacobs Field in Cleveland. The return comes nearly a year after Lester was diagnosed with a treatable form of Cancer.

Lester was deemed cancer-free by doctors in December and has slowly worked his way back to the Major Leagues. Lester was anxious for the Red Sox to let him loose but they took their time as they felt it was in his best interest.

Now, Lester will take Julian Tavarez's spot in the rotation and may be there to stay depending on how he performs until Curt Schilling returns. If both Lester and Gabbard are going well at the time of Schilling's return, it will be interesting to see what the Red Sox do with their rotation. There might be an outside possibility that Tim Wakefield could be moved to the bullpen with Tavarez but I'm not sure Francona would do that to Wakefield.

Tomorrow night when a cancer-free Lester takes the hill, Red Sox nation and most of the rest of baseball will be cheering him on.
